Life on board

On The One Ocean Expedition, Statsraad Lehmkuhl is filled with students, researchers and voyage crew who all work together to sail the big ship and gather experience and knowledge about the ocean.

On her first circumnavigation Statraad Lehmkuhl will visit 36 different ports around the globe. About two-thirds of the legs are leased to the expedition's partners. The remaining voyages are open for the public to join on board with us.

When you muster on board Statstraad Lehmkuhl as a member of the voyage crew, you immediately become an active participant in sailing and running the ship. Under the direction of the ship's professional staff, you man two fixed four-hour watches per day and participate in a variety of duties, such as mend the helm, sailing maneuvers, stand look out and set and fur the sails. Seamenship, friendship, unity and nature experiences go hand in hand.

Everyone is welcome to join a voyage with Statsraad Lehmkuhl, regardless of age and previous sailing experiences!

She is built for sailing on the open seas and has served as a training vessel under the Norwegian flag for more than a century. The Lehmkuhl Foundation takes pride in keeping the ship in top condition at all times. Despite her remarkble age of 108 years, she is is better condition today than ever before.

The ship´s permanent crew consists of 25 professional sailors, who work in monthly shifts.
